Established in the 1890s, the area took hold with a donation of land to build The Cleveland Museum of Art. The museum was later joined by The Cleveland Orchestra, The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cleveland Botanical Gardens, Western Reserve Historical Society, Museum of Contemporary Arts Cleveland and more—cumulating in 2021 with USA Today ranking University Circle #1 as the “Best Arts District” in America. University students of CWRU, CIM and CIA treat this rich cultural center as part of their campuses. And with University Hospitals , the VA Medical Center and nearby Cleveland Clinic, lab coats and scrubs seem to be the uniform of this diverse and bustling neighborhood.
