Tremont

Neighborhoods and Suburbs
Tremont
Tremont is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the City of Cleveland and has been described as the most “Clevelandy” of the urban neighborhoods. It was founded in the 1800s by dozens of immigrant groups. Today, the neighborhood appeals to empty nesters, hipsters, and young families. It has easy access to freeways, Downtown Cleveland, and the airport. It is a blend of blue-collar workers in modest homes living next door to professionals in newly developed four-story townhomes. Its pedestrian-friendly, tree-lined streets are walkable to trendy restaurants, bars, shops, and Lincoln Park, the green space that anchors the neighborhood.

Community
Tremont is a community known for its diversity and community connectivity. The 25 churches in one square mile reflect how diverse this community really is. (The most architecturally iconic church in the neighborhood is St. Theodosius Cathedral, whose onion-domed roof can be seen for miles.)
Tremont residents have ample opportunity to really be a part of their community. Residents often join one of the 11 Block Clubs of the community. Members gather monthly to bond and discuss development projects, community programs, and local initiatives. May residents also participate in an activity- or issue-based neighborhood group or committee.
The Little Tremonster’s Facebook group helps keep parents, caregivers and neighbors informed about kid-trending topics in the Tremont area.
Housing
Homes range from $50K to $500K+. Developments like Tremont Place Lofts and The Fairmount Creamery each add more than 100 apartments to the neighborhood, creating plenty of rental options. However, there is still high demand; it tends to be a tight market.
Amenities
Tremont is known for high-end restaurants (Iron Chef Michael Symon opened his first restaurant here), art galleries and shops (WalkAbout Tremont art walk is the second Friday of every month), The Christmas Story House, and many more fun cultural attractions. This interactive neighborhood map will give you a good idea of the neighborhood’s vibe.
Parks and Recreation
Lincoln Park is an eight-acre park in the center of Tremont and serves as the community hub for get-togethers, team sports, and recreational activities.
Tremont is the only Cleveland neighborhood along the Towpath Trail which is popular for both visitors and residents. The Towpath extends across 101 miles following the historic route of the Ohio & Erie Canalway. Tremont is home to the only portion of the trail to connect directly to an urban neighborhood, offering stunning cityscapes and the beauty of the outdoors with urban amenities.
Abbey Overlook is home to the famous Cleveland sign and incredible views of the city. Abbey Park is a greenspace with a playground and basketball court while Clark Field was Cleveland’s very first dog park. It has shaded areas, fresh water, state-of-the-art drainage, benches, and a double-gated entry system.
For the community’s athletes, Near West Recreation offers plenty. Near West Recreation is a partnership between Ohio City Incorporated, North West Neighborhood Community Development Organization, Tremont West Development, and Metro West Development Organization. It offers year-round recreation programming for children and select programs for adults.
Merrick House is a neighborhood center with educational programs for kids and adults and day camps.
Libraries
Residents have access to the Cuyahoga County Public Library system, arguably the best system in the country. They also enjoy the Cleveland Public Library system. The closest branches are Jefferson and South. Both offer plenty of programming and amenities.
Schools
Tremont students are served by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Schools include Scranton Elementary, Tremont Montessori for PK-9th Grade, and two dual language PK-8th Grade academies: Buher Dual Language Academy and Luis Muñoz Marín Dual Language Academy. Gifted K-8th Grade students often attend Menlo Park Academy. Students also have several other charter and private school options such as PK-12th Grade tuition-free Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School. High school students attend a variety of public and private schools including Magnificat for girls and St. Edward or St. Ignatius for boys.
